Weew-Waaw makes transcription of Thai texts.
It is based on grammar rules, not on dictionaries (except the irregular words).
The rule-based approach has important benefits:
For linguists and IT professionals, Weew-Waaw is a proof of concept of
fully-automated natural language analysis.
For students, it delivers unique explanation why a
word or phrase should be read so. See how does it work.
|
Transcription is not translation. Translation represents meaning of the word
while transcription represents spelling (how the word is to be pronounced).
This service, in turn, is not (and will never be) a translation service or thesaurus. It
will not be able to tell if the word has any meaning, although it can read it
according to the grammar rules.
Also, transcription is different to transliteration.
|
Weew-Waaw supports various transcription conventions,
including phonetic alphabets: IPA and SAMPA, and those based on natural languages: English, Ukrainian and Russian.
Default is IPA phonetic alphabet since it allows unambiguous phonetic representation of
text. For instance, the transcription for the word of "English" is [ˈɪŋɡlɪʃ]
and for "Українська мова" ("Ukrainian") is [ukrɑˈjinʲsʲkɑ ˈmɔwɑ].
Depending on your native language, Thai proficiency, and personal preferences, you would find phonetic convention best serving your needs.
